Etang de Planchon - 2012
Hi all,
Apologies for the lack of posts recently, since the lake fully defrosted 2 weeks ago, we have been busy working on the lake, refreshing the swims and introducing steps in front of the swims to help with returning the carp back to the lake.
I’d like to wish all the anglers and lake owners out there a very fruitful and eventful season this year.
I look forward to seeing some of you here this year.
Below are pics of the swims on the right side of the lake, the left side will follow next week.

Re: Etang de Planchon - 2012
Hi all,
With the second season rapidly approaching, the swims on the right have now been refreshed and steps put in.
Additionally signs have been added next to each swim, the signs were made locally.
Below are some pictures of the swims on the left and one of the signs.
Apart from cutting the grass, the lake is now ready for the first anglers to grace the banks of Etang de Planchon.

Catch report - week 1
Etang de Planchon’s second season kicked off to a flying start with 105 fish being caught totalling over 2500 lbs of fish.
The lake record got broken twice and the first 40 graced the banks.
Sam Lane (13 yrs old) broke the lake record early in the week with an impressive 39 lb 13 ozs.
John Wynne broke the lake record a couple of days later with a 40 lb carp and is the current lake record holder.
The fish are well and truly on the munch ahead of spawning and the Trigga house specials were again doing the business alongside Sticky vortex.
The new season saw a difference to last year in that the larger fish were coming out on larger beds of bait as opposed to last years little & often approach.
Large beds of Hemp, Maize and pellet were drawing them in and Trigga (lake special) or sticky vortex topped with fake corn, or bright pop ups have been the downfall of the bigger fish so far.
Of the 105 carp caught, there was 1 x 40, 11 x 30’s & 80 x 20’s (of which 40 were upper 20’s).
The top 6 fish for the week were: 40 lb, 39 lb 13 oz, 38 lb 7 oz, 2 x 35 lb & 34 lb 14 oz.
Here are a few fish from the week.

Week 4 & 5
Etang de Planchon’s fourth week was again plagued by rain, but despite the weather 86 carp were banked totalling over 2000 lb of fish.
This week saw Graham Smart and Lee Brackpool fish 7 days, Rob & Emma fish a long weekend and Johan Bonnefond fish for 24 hours.
Graham & Lee arrived at Etang de Planchon midst the bad weather that was hanging on from the previous week, the wind was still very gusty and they set up in Buzzard and Hawk.
Graham fished Trigga (lake specials) covered in Korda Goo and topped with fake corn over beds of hemp, maize and pellet.
He even decided to follow the wind for a couple of nights and move to Owl, after which he went back to Hawk.
Graham managed to land himself 34 carp, 5 of which were 30’s and his biggest a 33 lb mirror.
Lee stuck it out in Buzzard for the whole week and fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with green or yellow fake corn.
Lee landed himself 25 carp for the week of which 1 was a 30 and it weighed in at 37 lb 10 oz.
Johan Bonnefond lives in Limoges and came for a short 24 hours session, his third visit to the lake.
He landed himself 4 carp in the 24 hours, fishing with Trigga & fake corn. His biggest was 28 lb 12 oz.
Rob & Emma came for their second long weekend, this time Emma was hoping Rob would let her land a few of the carp they caught. Rob was looking for a 30 this time round as he didn’t manage to land one on their previous visit.
They fished mainly Trigga (lake specials) on its own or topped with fake corn, this was over a bed of pellet, between them they landed 23 fish (3 to Emma) 3 of which were 30’s and the biggest of which was 35 lb 1 oz.
Of the 86 carp caught, there was 9 x 30’s & 60 x 20’s (of which 33 were upper 20’s).
The top 5 fish for the week were: 37 lb 10 oz, 35 lb 1 oz, 34 lb 2oz common, 33 lb, & 32 lb.
There is no one on the lake now until Saturday so there will be no report for week 5.
Here are a few fish from the week.

Week 6
Etang de Planchon’s sixth week was a busy one for the anglers, the weather has been warming up and the carp showed their appreciation by gracing the banks.
Between Tony Montero, Gary Smith & Des Smith (who only fished in the daylight) there were 113 fish caught totalling over 2600 lbs.
This week saw a bit of confusion when Tony, Des (Tony’s father-in-law) and Gary (Tony’s brother-in-law) arrived. As soon as they were picked up Des & Gary were calling Tony “Mark”, apparently it’s because his dad is also called Tony and it avoids confusion (we nearly got it right by the end of the week)
Tony (Mark) was in buzzard swim and he mainly fished Trigga (lake specials) with or without fake corn, it was over beds of particle or with a few freebie boilies. He also caught a few using vortex boilies and Mistral rosehip boilies.
Tony landed himself 46 carp, 5 of which were 30’s and his biggest was a 37 lb 11 0z mirror.
Des fished only daylight hours and had opted for Owl swim, he started his week using Tiger nut boilies, he caught over half of his carp on them and the rest were caught on Trigga (lake specials) or vortex both topped with fake corn. He also fished over particle and pellet.
Des landed himself 43 carp for the week, 1 of which was a 30 and his biggest was 36 lb 14 oz.
Gary fished Harrier swim and the wind was against him most of the week, he fished a combination of either Trigga (lake specials) or vortex with or without fake corn. He also fished over particle with some maize and pellet.
Gary landed himself 24 carp, 1 of which was a 30 and his biggest fish was 37 lb.
Of the 113 carp caught, there was 7 x 30’s & 95 x 20’s (of which 30 were upper 20’s).
The top 5 fish for the week were: 37 lb 11 oz, 37 lb, 36 lb 14oz, 33 lb 10 oz, & 33 lb 1 oz.
Thanks guys for a cracking week.

Initially there were 2 guys fishing the lake, Anthony Smith and Sean Barrett. Sean had his twin brother (Connor) with him, but his brother wasn’t planning on fishing, that was until Sean pulled his first 30 out. Week 8
Etang de Planchon’s eighth week saw the arrival of Arthur Hudson (aka Rob) having the lake to himself for the week.
Arthur’s first couple of days started off slow, only landing 2 carp, but that soon picked up.
Apart from day 1 Arthur fished Kestrel swim and tried various baits. Throughout the week he tried Trigga (lake specials) on their own or topped with faked corn, halibut boilie or a Tuna / Chilli pop up, he also tried Vortex, fake corn on it’s own and pineapple pop ups on their own.
Arthur landed himself 26 fish over the week with his biggest being a 32 lb 6 oz mirror.
Of the 26 carp, there was 1 x 30 & 19 20’s (of which 3 were upper 20’s)
Here are a couple of fish from the week.

Week 9
Etang de Planchon’s ninth week saw the arrival of Paul Fernley and Gordon Stapley, it also saw some signs that the carp may spawn, but they never did.
The first day was very busy for the guys and they landed 7 carp between them in 6 hours, then the lake quietened for a day.
Between them they ended up with 37 carp for the week totalling just under 1000 lb of fish.
Paul fished in Buzzard for the week and caught all of his fish with Trigga (lake specials), all but 2 of which were topped with fake corn.
Paul landed himself 21 fish over the week, 2 of which were 30’s, with his biggest being a 35lb mirror.

Gordon fished in Hawk for the week and 12 of his 16 carp were caught on Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn, while the other 4 were caught on a cell pop up topped with fake corn.
Gordon landed himself 16 fish for the week, 4 of which were 30’s, with his biggest being 38 lb 12 oz mirror.
Of the 37 carp, there was 6 x 30 & 29 20’s (of which 13 were upper 20’s)
I’d just like to say thanks to the guys for keeping the animals entertained.
Here are a couple of fish from the week.

Week 10
Etang de Planchon’s Tenth week saw the arrival of Andy & Sam Lane and the rest of Andy’s family, it also saw the arrival of Mick & Callum Hayes. Both groups were only fishing for 5 days.
There was also signs that some of the carp had spawned overnight, but nothing major compared to last year (still more to come I think)
Over the 5 days, both groups between them managed to land 94 carp totalling over 2000 lbs.
This was Andy & Sam’s fourth visit to the lake since it opened in March 2011.
On their previous visits Sam & Andy fished in the same swim, this visit Andy felt Sam was ready to fish his own swim and he could introduce the rest of his family to French carp fishing.
Between the 2 swims (3 rods in each) they managed to land 56 carp totalling over 1300 lb of fish.
Andy also let Ethan his youngest son land 8 of his carp and his daughters helped land a couple of others.
Team Andy fished Falcon and landed 39 carp in total (including 8 to Ethan and 2 to Yolanda) Andy’s biggest carp was 38 lb 6 oz, Ethan’s biggest was 33 lb 12 oz and Yolanda’s biggest was 27 lb 12 oz, 2 of the 39 carp were 30’s.
Andy stuck with the old faithful Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn, mega corn or mini yellow boilies. All of this on beds of pellet, hemp & maize.
Sam started his week in Harrier and them moved to Owl and landed himself 17 carp, 2 of which were 30’s. Sam also stuck with Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn or yellow pop ups. All of this on beds of pellet, hemp & maize. Sam’s biggest was 36 lb 8 oz.
Sam only fished one night and Andy didn’t fish two of the nights as he wanted to spend time with his family.
Father & son, Mick & Callum Haynes arrived the day after Andy and despite Callum being unwell from a bug he had brought with him from the UK they still managed to land 38 carp totalling over 900 lbs of fish.
Mick fished Kestrel for the 5 days and landed himself 24 carp, 4 of which were 30’s. He fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with different coloured corn or pink pepper pop ups, again all of this on beds of pellet, hemp & maize. Hi biggest was 34 lb 14 oz.
Callum fished between Kestrel and Hawk for the 5 days, despite being out of action for 2 days, he landed himself 14 carp, 1 of which was a 30. He fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with different coloured corn and again all of this on beds of pellet, hemp & maize. His biggest was 31 lb.
Of the 94 carp, there was 9 x 30 & 75 x 20’s (of which 28 were upper 20’s)
Here are a few of the fish from the week.

Check out our video diaries page to see the clip of the guys: www.carp-fishinginfrance.com/videos.htm
Later in the week they decided to watch the England and France game at the lake but asked me to invite the neighbours for a BBQ, let’s just say it was a good night and no one fished that night.
Over the week the guys managed to land 100 carp totalling over 2400 lbs.
Ian was in Buzzard and bagged up for the week, he fished all but 2 nights and landed himself 36 fish. He fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn over beds of pellet hemp & maize.

Karl D stayed in Kestrel all but 1 day, he decided to poach a few of Ian’s fish from Buzzard for a day.
He landed 13 fish over the week with his biggest being 28 lb 12 oz. He also fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn.
Clive started his week in Harrier with Billy, but moved half way through the week to Hawk.
He fished Trigga (lake specials) over beds of hemp, maize & pellet and landed himself 16 fish over the week.
2 of his fish were 30’s and his biggest was 33 lb 8 oz.

Stephen landed himself 15 fish over the week.
Billy fished in Harrier, Falcon and even had a go in Owl. His methods were the same as the rest of the group (apart from not using back leads), despite this he still only managed to land himself 4 fish for the week.
Billy’s biggest fish for the week was a lovely 30 lb common.
Of the 100 carp, there was 12 x 30 & 76 x 20’s (of which 23 were upper 20’s)

Week 12
Etang de Planchon’s twelfth week saw the arrival of a father and 3 sons. Ted, Jon, Dan & Matt Luik arrived Sunday, only Jon fished nights and he only did 2 all week.
Ted, the father of the group likes to experiment and he tried various different things to catch his carp.
He spent a couple of days surface fishing with one of his rods, he tried a ball of worms and he even put out a chod rig, unfortunately to not much success, apart from 1 carp on the chod rig.
The weather for the week was very hot and the pressure was high, but despite that the 4 guys still managed to land 47 carp totalling over 1100 lb of fish.
Jon started in Owl for the week and swapped around with his dad and one of his brothers over the week.
He fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with Mega corn, squid pop ups or double fake corn over beds of pellet, hemp & maize or with just freebie boilies.
Jon landed 14 fish over the week, 1 of which was a 30 weighing in at 36 lb 8 oz.
Dan started in Buzzard and moved to Harrier and then Falcon over the week.
He fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn or with a Trigga pop up as a snowman, all this again over beds of pellet, hemp & maize.
Dan landed 13 fish over the week, 2 of which were 30’s and his biggest was 35 lb.
Matt started in Kestrel and moved to Owl and then Kestrel over the week.
He also fished Trigga (lake specials) topped with fake corn, mega corn, a Trigga pop up or a pink (fishy) pop up.
Matt landed 10 fish over the week, 1 of which was a 30 lb 1 oz common.
Ted had a slow start to the week in Kestrel and so he moved to buzzard and even managed to sneak a fish from Jon in Owl.
He fished Trigga (lake specials)or Robin red pellet, topped with fake corn, mega corn or a pop up of some description.
Ted also landed 10 fish over the week, 1 of which was a 30 weighing in at 33 lb 2 oz.
Of the 47 carp, there was 5 x 30’s & 32 x 20’s (of which 8 were upper 20’s)
Here are a few of the fish from the week.

Week 13
Etang de Planchon’s thirteenth week saw the arrival of 6 lads from Preston. Wayne, Graham, Jimmy, Eddie, Peter and Gary all arrived on Sunday for 5 days fishing.
Half of the lads fished 2 rods all week and the other half used 3 rods towards the end of the week.
This week also saw some very high pressure and high temperatures reaching 35 degrees. Unfortunately for the lads this slowed up the fish bites, they still managed to land 37 fish between them totalling over 850 lbs of carp.
The lads fished Trigga (lake specials) and cell boilies, they topped them with fake corn, mega corn, and even fresh prawns, Gary even dipped his boilies in a bloodworm dip.
The majority of the lads fished on beds of hemp, pellet & maize.
The biggest 2 fish fell to Wayne and Eddie, Wayne landed the biggest of the week at 38 lb 8 oz and Eddie was not far behind with his 37 lb 12 oz catch.
Despite the slow fishing over the week, the lads enjoyed themselves so much they have already booked for April next year.
Of the 37 carp, there was 2 x 30’s & 30 x 20’s (of which 10 were upper 20’s)
Here are a few of the fish from the week.

Week 14
Etang de Planchon’s fourteenth week saw the arrival of Raymond Loughran & David Palmer from Northampton and it also saw a return visit from Tom Suckling, Ian Dixon and Alex Dixon from Hertford.
The fishing this week was very slow and the fish were just not biting, was it the pressure? Was it the changing weather?... I don’t know.
The guys persisted and between the 4 people fishing they managed to land 32 fish totalling over 700 lb.
Despite the catches being slow there was a lot of banter and funny comments flying around all week.
Ian had us all in stitches telling us of tales of the fish hooking itself then jumping out the lake and extending its fin like a middle finger and spitting his boilies out.
He couldn’t quite get to grips with the words “back leads” and was calling them “back legs” all week, he also said he managed to a land a 46 lb carp but apparently couldn’t get hold of anyone to take a photo.
Towards the end of the week, he informed us over the walking talkie that he had been poaching (he meant stalking) and had just fallen out of a tree.
He topped it off by breaking the plastic chair he was sitting on and all that could be seen were his 2 legs sticking up in the doorway of his bivvy where he went flying back.
Check out Ian’s attempt of using the bait boat on our facebook page: Etang de Planchon Facebook page
This was the first time fishing in France for Raymond & David and between them they opted for Hawk & Buzzard, although later in the week David changed from Hawk to Kestrel.
All but one of their catches was on Trigga (lake specials) topped with whit fake corn, one catch was on DT baits N Blend topped with white fake corn.
David landed 8 fish for the week, 1 of which was the biggest for the week at 37 lb 6 oz.
Raymond landed 14 fish for the week 1 of which was 31 lb.
Tom and Ian started in Harrier but moved to Owl & Falcon mid week, they did not fish any nights.
Between them they landed 10 fish, not a patch on last years visit, they tried everything possible but the fish were just not having it.
Between the 2 of them the biggest was landed by Tom at 28 lb 6 oz.
All the guys on this week enjoyed themselves despite the slow fishing and are looking to return next year and improve on their catches.
Of the 32 carp, there was 2 x 30’s & 16 x 20’s (of which 6 were upper 20’s)
Here are a few of the fish from the week.
