Hallelujah - it looks like the large carp may be on the munch again, and not before time, with a 60lb'er 50lb'er and 5 - 40's coming out this week including a cracking brace. The 50 and 60 have both lost around 7lb's in weight, and the 40's, a few lb's, so it just goes to show that they have not been feeding since the spawn. Another really hard week though for our 4 regular guys from Norfolk, and 1 new angler from Wiltshire. Still very hot with no rain to speak of.

9th – 16th July 2011

5 new anglers from Nottingham at the lake this week. Another very hot week, slightly cooler towards the end with a little rain, so again, hard fishing for our guys. Rain predicted for the next few days which we so desperately need, so hope it is not just another false prediction.

13 carp caught totalling 431.5lb, with an average of 33.19lb. 4 lost.

4 guys from Birmingham – back again after a couple of years. Weather changeable yet again and water still very warm. Most caught overnight or morning.
19 carp caught with around 8 lost – one very large right at the net – oh dear Mark, that’s fishing. Weight of fish totalling 711.10lb with an average of 38lb.

30th July – 6th August 2011

6 mixed anglers visited us this week – Steve McCarthy on his second trip this year from Liverpool, father and young son from York, one new angler from Shropshire (who had a very productive week), and two regulars from Lincolnshire. Very hot when they arrived, and I know we have been moaning so much about no rain, well we were hit by the storm from hell after soaring humidity. It did not last that long, but wind and torrential rain brought a few trees down, and almost disintegrated one of the bivvies. It certainly cooled things down a bit, and a few carp caught overnight after this. A bit cooler for a couple of days after that, but predicted to be hotting up again.

22 carp caught totalling 824.14 lbs with a great average of 37.46 lb, but around 13 fish lost – this could have been a much more productive week, but even so fantastic catches.

6th – 13th August 2011

3 anglers from Norfolk and our old mate Martin Smith from Birmingham fished the lake this week, and what a fabulous week it was they caught an amazing 11 – 40’s and 21 – 30’s.

Everyone was more than happy with their catches, plenty of fish cruising and sunbathing, but most importantly eating after so long. The week started with a little rain, hotting up later with obviously cooler nights now. Brilliant week guys – that’s what we like to see.

We had 5 new new guys from Liverpool, and another old favourite, Ron Chillery from Nottinghamshire at the lake this week – he was absolutely over the moon to catch his first 50 lb’er – well done to you Ron.

Another blazingly hot week with 1 overnight thunderstorm not cooling us down at all, so fishing remained quiet. Therefore extremely hard week again for the guys, but some good fish landed – they are not to be deterred and will be back next year with hopefully no drought conditions to contend with.

20th – 27th August 2011

We had 5 of our regular anglers from Buckinghamshire fishing this week. It was blisteringly, unbearably hot to start the week, so not much happening as expected, only a few fish banked. Then on Wednesday night, a much welcomed thunderstorm with rain most of the night cooling everything down and producing 7 catches, with another 7 catches again the following night. Staying cooler for the rest of the week caused the carp to carry on feeding well, producing the rest of the catches.

It ended up a very good week with 28 carp caught and 10 lost, so it could have been even more productive. Total weight 949lb’s, with an average of 34lb.

3rd – 10th September 2011

Only 3 anglers at the lake who visited us from Nottingham this week – should have been 5 but sadly two brothers had to drop out due to family illness.

And how absolutely F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C – 12 - 40’s and 2 – 50’s. They had a great week last year, but not compared to this.

These guys started catching from the start, and all had their PB’s on the first night. They caught well every day until Thursday and Friday when it slowed down as temperatures went up again.

They were such great guys and had a good laugh with Baz, who also fished 3 nights because there was space. He was over the moon with his own personal best of 54lb 9oz.

A mixed week weatherwise with quite a bit of rain and sunshine, much colder at night. The carp are most definitely feeding really well now and are happier with the cooler temperatures.

10th – 17th September 2011

A mixed bunch of 6 anglers this week, 3 regulars and 3 new. They were from Lincoln, Sussex, Wales and Essex.

Nice to see quite a few commons coming out. Our anglers banked 8 – 40’s, 17 – 30’s and no 20’s.

It was a hard but very productive week. The carp seemed to switch off again early in the week straight after last week’s great catches. All but one angler achieved his 40, but he still had late 30’s which is not to be sniffed at. The weather warmed up again with some rain later on – now getting quite cold at night.

We welcomed 4 of our regular guys from Leicester to fish our lake this week.

Again as with last week fishing started well, then no one was getting a sniff until the last couple of days with the 47lb’er coming out on the last night.

Very warm temperatures, but cracking lumps coming out yet again. You did well guys considering the heat.

24th September – 1st October 2011

4 lads from Surrey this week – 2 regular, and two friends new to the lake.

Weather got even hotter throughout the week, and the carp stayed in the Med with plenty basking and sunbathing, and not bothering to eat a lot – mostly feeding during the night. Consequently, one angler caught most of the carp and 1 lad unfortunately blanked – sorry Phil, but they will be back next year cos they know they have the chance of a “big one”.

1st – 8th October 2011

Two of our regular anglers from Staffordshire, two new anglers from Essex and Hertfordshire, also our old friend Graham for the 4th time this year came to the lake this week.

Weather very hot, and no rain again affected catches dramatically.

So, an extremely tough week for these guys with 9 carp caught weighing 339.2 lbs, with an average weight of 38lb.

5 of our regular anglers from Leicester and 1 regular from Liverpool joined us on our last week of the Season, and it proved to be another excessively hard week for our guys, even though it cooled down at nights, it still got to an amazing 30+ degrees during the day.

Still a good few lumps though produced at intervals between periods of nothing. The last night prevented two of our guys from blanking. This has been an exceptionally tough year altogether with the unending drought and high temperatures – more on that in my end of year report soon.
